A structured vocabulary building course with Foundation and Advanced levels, designed to strengthen three exam components simultaneously: Verbal Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Written Expression.
Begin with the Foundation Vocabulary Course. Work through the contextual sentences and exercises to build core academic vocabulary. Complete 3–4 vocabulary lessons per week alongside 2–3 practice tests. Focus on understanding words in context rather than memorising definitions — exams test usage, not recall.
Move to the Advanced Vocabulary Course once the foundation is solid. These words provide competitive differentiation — they are the vocabulary that distinguishes strong answers from average ones. Continue with practice tests to reinforce new words in exam-style contexts.
In the final weeks, focus on how vocabulary applies across different exam sections. For Verbal Reasoning, practise word relationships and analogies using the vocabulary learned. For Reading Comprehension, identify learned words in passage contexts. For Writing, practise incorporating precise vocabulary into written responses.
Use the topic-wise practice tests to revisit areas of weakness. The progress tracking shows which word groups need more attention. Under exam conditions, students who can quickly recognise word meanings in context save valuable time on both Reading and Verbal Reasoning sections.
Vocabulary is one of the few skills that strengthens multiple exam components simultaneously. In EduTest exams, strong vocabulary directly improves Verbal Reasoning (word relationships and analogies), Reading Comprehension (understanding passage vocabulary in context), and Written Expression (precise word choices in essays). In the NSW Selective Test, vocabulary supports the Reading section and Thinking Skills. In HAST exams, it strengthens Reading Comprehension and supports Verbal Reasoning where tested.
The reason vocabulary matters so much for exam preparation is that many comprehension and reasoning questions are essentially vocabulary questions in disguise. A student who does not know the meaning of a word in a reading passage loses the ability to answer inference questions about that section. A student with limited vocabulary writes less precisely, scoring lower on Written Expression. Vocabulary is the foundation that other skills build on.
This course takes a systematic approach: 1,000+ high-impact words selected for exam relevance, taught in context with model usage examples, and reinforced through 100+ practice tests in multiple formats. The Foundation and Advanced levels ensure students build progressively, and the topic-wise organisation makes it easy to focus on specific word groups that need attention.
Vocabulary gaps affect Reading, Verbal Reasoning, and Writing simultaneously. This course addresses the root cause.
