We recommend starting preparation 9-12 months before the test date. This allows time to build foundational skills, identify and address weaknesses, develop test-taking strategies, and complete sufficient practice tests. Starting earlier provides more time for gradual skill development without overwhelming the student.
The NSW Selective Test is for Year 6 students seeking Year 7 entry to selective high schools. The OC Test is for Year 4 students seeking Year 5 entry to Opportunity Classes. Both test similar skills (Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills) but at different difficulty levels. The Selective test also includes a Writing component.
