Queensland Academies Year 7 vocabulary list

This list targets vocabulary that appears in the Queensland Academies EduTest-style entrance assessment for Year 7 entry at QASMT. The paper tests verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, reading comprehension, mathematics, and written expression — each in a separate timed section.

Five-day revision routine

• analogy — a comparison showing how two pairs relate
• synonym — a word with a similar meaning
• context — the surrounding words that clarify meaning
• deduce — work out an answer from given information

Check understanding, not recognition

Queensland Academies verbal reasoning items often test word relationships and sentence completion — not whether your child has memorised a spelling list. After each theme, pick three words and ask: “Can you use this in a sentence?” or “What is the opposite?” Short, spoken checks beat copying definitions.
