EduTest Scholarship Exams: Parent Guide for 2027–28 Entry
EduTest scholarship exams 2027–28 parent guide — five-section format, school-set registration, Ability vs Achievement, and how to prepare without mixing ACER papers.
Article body
Many independent-school scholarship pages name EduTest as the sitting provider. EduTest is not the NSW Selective High School Placement Test and it is not the ACER Scholarship Test — it is a five-section Ability + Achievement battery published by Edutest Co Pty Ltd. This parent guide covers 2027–28 scholarship and entrance cycles: what EduTest measures, how registration works, and how to prepare by subject without mixing papers. Start with the EduTest selective and scholarship exam hub for the full pathway.
Quick answer: EduTest scholarship exams for parents
EduTest scholarship sittings assess Ability (Verbal and Numerical Reasoning — thinking without curriculum recall) and Achievement (Reading, Mathematics, and Written Expression — learned skills under time pressure). Each section is 30 minutes multiple-choice except Written Expression (15 minutes, no planning time). Calculators, dictionaries, rulers, and mobile phones are prohibited — see the EduTest parents page for the full prohibited-items list (checked 15 July 2026).
2027–28 EduTest scholarship dates and registration checklist
There is no single national EduTest scholarship calendar. Each school publishes its own application window, fee, and sitting date.
| What to confirm | Why it matters | Status (15 Jul 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| School names EduTest (not AAS or ACER Scholarship) | Wrong provider wastes months of prep | Check scholarship page |
| Application open and close dates | Late applications may miss on-time testing | Unconfirmed per school |
| Sitting month for 2027–28 entry | Drives mock schedule | Unconfirmed per school |
| Fee per application | Budget for each school on your list | School portal |
| Remote vs on-site sitting (if offered) | Logistics and prohibited items | School pack |
Published example (Queensland Academies — entrance, not generic private scholarship): QASMT lists Year 7 2028 on-time testing on 5–6 September 2026 with applications due 4 pm Friday 21 August 2026 — re-check QASMT Year 7 enrolments before you plan. Private scholarship schools publish their own windows separately.
Registration is through each school, not one national EduTest portal for scholarships. Pay and apply separately for every school on your list.
EduTest scholarship format: Ability vs Achievement
| Section | Category | Timing | What it measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verbal Reasoning | Ability | 30 min MCQ | Words, relationships, classification, deduction |
| Numerical Reasoning | Ability | 30 min MCQ | Series, matrices, arithmetic reasoning |
| Reading Comprehension | Achievement | 30 min MCQ | Meaning from passages; sentence completion |
| Mathematics | Achievement | 30 min MCQ | Year-appropriate maths — numbers, measurement, algebra, space, data |
| Written Expression | Achievement | 15 min | One writing task — creative, narrative, persuasive, expository or informative |

Students must shade answer bubbles on multiple-choice sheets in order — Edutest states it cannot manually rescore tests if answers are entered out of sequence. Written Expression is marked on punctuation, grammar, spelling, relevance, and construction.
How to prepare by subject (2027–28)
- Baseline (week 1). Sit one timed sample under official section lengths. Mark it fully before the next paper. Use free mock tests for an on-screen option.
- Weekly rhythm. One Ability section drill, one Achievement section drill, and one 15-minute write marked against a rubric.
- Subject deep-dives. Verbal: verbal reasoning practice guide. Numerical: numerical reasoning practice guide. Primary foundations: Year 5 EduTest sample paper.
- Full mocks (final 8 weeks). Five sections in one sitting using school-published timing. Review every mistake before the next mock.
Full subject table and mock cadence: EduTest practice by subject.
Scholarship families in Braintree Coaching Australia’s 2024 cohort (4,214 students enrolled across programmes) who confirmed EduTest as the named provider before purchasing mocks reported fewer late format switches in tutor intake notes — a programme observation, not a score guarantee.
When the school uses ACER Scholarship instead
Some schools register ACER Scholarship Tests (Level P or Secondary Levels 1–3) rather than EduTest — for example Brisbane Grammar Trustees’ Scholarships name the ACER Scholarship Examination. If your list includes both providers, split prep tracks using ACER vs EduTest. The broader AAS / ACER / EduTest private-school overview is on Private school scholarship exams.
