About this resource
Quick Answer
NAPLAN Year 7 practice sets from Braintree Coaching Australia are a small home-practice library for the 2027 window (10–22 March): distinct Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy sets plus a separate online writing task for Years 7 and 9, each with length, where the items came from, and online/print (or typed) labels. They are not a full NAPLAN exam, not a recycled Year 3 or Year 5 pack, and not an official ACARA paper. Official ACARA sitting lengths for Year 7 are Writing 42 minutes, Reading 65 minutes, Language Conventions 45 minutes, and Numeracy 65 minutes (NAPLAN test window / scheduling); these sets are shorter home practice. Start with the Reading set below (about 15–18 minutes), review the worked solution together, and keep the first session short enough to review one method. For interface familiarisation (not a score), use ACARA’s public demonstration site. Historical 2012–2016 papers are archival only — see Year 7 past papers.
This page is the downloadable companion to the Year 7 NAPLAN practice tests guide. Year 3, Year 5 and Year 9 families should use their own libraries. The shared Years 3–9 interim sample at NAPLAN sample questions remains available for multi-year browsing.
What is included in the Year 7 library?
The Year 7 library is four labelled Braintree Coaching Australia practice pieces: three short Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy sets and one separate online writing task for Years 7 and 9. It is not a full NAPLAN sitting.
| Set | Items | Sample length | Online / print |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 2 | About 15–18 minutes | Online (preferred) or print |
| Language Conventions | 2 | About 10–12 minutes | Online (preferred) or print |
| Numeracy | 2 | About 15–18 minutes | Online (preferred) or print |
| Writing (online) | 1 separate task | About 25–30 minutes | Online / typed only |
Where these items came from: Original Braintree Coaching Australia Year 7 items, not an ACARA paper. Official ACARA sitting lengths (NAPLAN test window / scheduling: Year 7 Writing 42 minutes; Reading 65 minutes; Language Conventions 45 minutes; Numeracy 65 minutes) are scheduling figures. These sets are shorter home practice.
What does a Year 7 Reading worked example look like?
Passage: Before the student council forum, Priya listed the strongest objections she expected to hear, drafted a short reply to each one, and practised answering without reading from her notes. Only then did she open her slides for the opening statement.
Question: What can you most reasonably infer about Priya?
Correct option: She is preparing to answer objections during the forum.
Method: Listing objections, drafting replies and practising without notes support preparation for counter-arguments. The “wants to cancel the forum” distractor invents opposition the passage never states.
Follow-up (transfer): Ask which two actions show she planned for pushback, not just for reading an opening statement.
What is in the Year 7 Reading set?
Question 1 — inference
Use the worked example above first. The full multiple-choice options are in the practice activity on this page. Then ask your child which two actions prove planning for pushback.
Question 2 — evidence for inference
Passage: After the debating workshop, Marcus packed the timer and cue cards first, checked that every team’s notes were returned to the correct folder, and only then asked the teacher whether the spare room could stay locked overnight.
Question: Which detail best supports the idea that Marcus secured the materials before asking about the room?
Look for the packing and folder checks completed before the room question. Signal words such as “first” and “only then” show order.
What is in the Year 7 Language Conventions set?
Question 3 — semicolon
Which sentence uses punctuation correctly? The correct form joins two related independent clauses with a semicolon: The survey closed on Friday; the results were published on Monday.
Question 4 — parallel structure
Choose the sentence where list items match: The coach asked the squad to warm up, to stretch carefully, and to check their water bottles.
What is in the Year 7 Numeracy set?
Question 5 — ratio (non-calculator)
Concentrate:water = 3:5 in 40 litres total. Method: 8 parts → 5 L each → concentrate 15 litres.
Question 6 — percentage
35% of 240 students. Method: 10% = 24; 30% = 72; 5% = 12 → 84.
How should Year 7 writing be practised online?
Writing task — persuasive for Years 7 and 9
Prompt: Should secondary schools make one quiet homework period compulsory each week? Write to persuade a school leadership team.
Practise typed on a device. Use the secondary writing-prompt band (Years 7 and 9). Judge structure and ideas, not length. Do not treat a home comment as an official NAPLAN writing result.
Annotated structure sample: Opening states a clear view; two reasons with examples; one short rebuttal; a short close that restates the position.
Where are official Year 7 familiarisation materials and historical papers?
- Familiarisation: ACARA’s public demonstration site shows question types and online controls for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Demos are not tailored and are not Braintree Coaching Australia items.
- Historical official papers: ACARA’s 2012–2016 test papers are archival; ACARA does not provide access to NAPLAN tests after 2016. See also Year 7 past papers. Those papers are not this Braintree Coaching Australia library.
What should parents do after one Year 7 set?
After one Year 7 set, return to the Year 7 practice guide for session shape and delivery notes, then stop. On-page samples above are available now. A printable PDF follows a named academic second-solver sign-off (still pending).

When is one set finished?
One Year 7 domain set is finished when your child has worked the items with solutions (or completed the online writing task with structure review). This library is not a full exam.

Questions parents ask about this pack
Which version of this practice set is this?
Braintree Coaching Australia stamps every published practice set with a set ID and version. If a worked solution or stem looks wrong, report it with the item ID so the team opens the same pack you downloaded. A review date appears here only after a named reviewer has checked every item. Changing the resource page date does not count as that review. Next: open the report form, pick the item ID, then send the email.
